Amazon KDP Royalty Reports

How to find and download your KDP royalty statements

Amazon KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) provides monthly royalty reports that show your book sales and earnings across all Amazon marketplaces. This step-by-step guide explains how to find, download, and upload your KDP royalty statements to Familiar for automated royalty management and multi-contributor tracking.

Step-by-Step Guide

1

Log into KDP

Visit kdp.amazon.com and sign in to your account.

2

Navigate to Reports

Click on the "Reports" tab in the main navigation menu.

3

Find Prior Months' Royalties

Look for the "Prior Months' Royalties" section. This contains your historical royalty data.

4

Download Monthly Reports

For each month you want to upload, click the download button (usually a down arrow or "Download" link). The file will be downloaded as a CSV or Excel file.

What's in Your KDP Report

Included Data:

  • • Book titles and ASINs
  • • Sales quantities by format (Kindle, Paperback, etc.)
  • • Royalty earnings per sale
  • • Customer geography
  • • Promotional discounts applied

Report Frequency:

  • • Monthly reports available ~60 days after month end
  • • Reports cover sales from 2 months prior
  • • Data includes Kindle, Paperback, and Hardcover sales

Which KDP report should I upload?

Familiar accepts two Excel (.xlsx) exports from KDP. When you have a choice, the finalized monthly report is the most accurate.

Prior Months' Royalties — recommended

The finalized monthly royalty report. Amounts are settled, so this is the authoritative source for any closed month. Reach for this whenever it's available.

Orders export (filenames like "KDP_Orders-*.xlsx")

A multi-month export that can cover your whole sales history at once. Familiar reads each row's own month, so a single Orders file can backfill many months in one upload. Note that it may include estimated, not-yet-finalized amounts for the most recent period — for fully closed months, prefer the Prior Months' Royalties statement, which is authoritative.

Common Issues

Can't find Prior Months' Royalties?

Make sure you're looking in the Reports section, not the Bookshelf. The Prior Months' Royalties section is separate from your current month's dashboard data.

No download button available?

Reports are typically available 60 days after the end of the month. If you don't see a download option, the data may not be ready yet or you may not have had any sales that month.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

1

Downloading the wrong file type

Upload one of the two reports above (Prior Months' Royalties or the Orders export), not a screenshot or copy of the current month dashboard. For fully closed months, the Prior Months' Royalties report is the most accurate.

2

Missing recent months

Remember that KDP reports have a 60-day delay. If it's March 15th, you can only download reports up through January. February's data won't be available yet.

3

Forgetting international marketplaces

Each Amazon marketplace (US, UK, DE, FR, etc.) has separate reports. You need to download reports from each marketplace where you have sales. Familiar can handle reports from all marketplaces.
