Frequently Asked Questions

How do I upload royalty statements?

Navigate to Royalties > Sales Data in the sidebar. Click "Upload Statement" and select your CSV or XLSX file. Familiar will automatically detect the format and parse your royalty data.

What happens if I delete a book?

When you delete a book, it will be automatically recreated the next time it appears in a royalty statement from your distributors. If you want to permanently hide a book, use the visibility toggles (Editorial, Promotion, Royalties) instead of deleting it.

How do I set up royalty contracts?

Go to Royalties > Contracts in the sidebar. Select a book and click "Add Royalty Structure" to define how royalties should be calculated for each book format. You can set up different royalty rates for paperback, ebook, audiobook, and more.

Can I track multiple contributors per book?

Yes! Navigate to Royalties > Contributors to manage contributors and their royalty splits. You can assign multiple contributors to a book and define their respective royalty percentages.

How do I generate contributor payments?

Go to Royalties > Payments in the sidebar. Select the payment period and click "Generate Payments" to calculate what each contributor is owed. You can then export the payment details or mark payments as completed.

What file formats are supported for royalty statements?

Familiar supports CSV and XLSX files from major distributors including Amazon KDP, ACX, IngramSpark, Ingram Ebook, Draft2Digital, Google Play, IPG, Asterism, Squarespace, Shopify, Abrams, Chicago Distribution Center, and Beacon Audio. Check the distributor help pages for specific format requirements.

How do I fix incorrect royalty calculations?

If you notice incorrect calculations, first verify your royalty structures are set up correctly in Royalties > Contracts. You can also use Royalties > Adjustments to manually adjust royalty amounts for specific periods.

Can I export royalty data?

Yes! Most pages in the Royalties section have export functionality. Look for the "Export" button to download data as CSV or XLSX files.
