Lakeside (Baker & Taylor Publisher Services) Sales Reports

How to bring your Monthly Sales By Title report into Familiar

If you distributed through Baker & Taylor Publisher Services (BTPS), you're now a Lakeside client. Baker & Taylor wound down its library wholesale business in late 2025, and Lakeside Book Company bought the publisher services arm, including its Ashland, Ohio warehouse and print-on-demand operation, in November 2025. It now runs as Lakeside Book Distribution. The sales reports are still the same family, so this guide covers both names.

The Report You Need

Monthly Sales By Title

You'll recognize it by its first lines: MONTHLY SALES BY TITLE, then your publisher name and account number, then a PERIOD line (for example PERIOD - 0925). Below that is one row per sale with the columns ISBN #, TITLE, WAREHOUSE, ORDER #, PONO, CUSTOMER, UNITS SOLD, DISC % and AMOUNT, broken up by subtotal rows. Familiar skips the header lines and subtotals for you.

How to Get Your Report

1

Sign In to the Publisher Dashboard

The former BTPS login still works. It's at dashboard.btpubservices.com and is now titled “Lakeside Book Company Publishers Dashboard.” Lakeside's separate Publishers Hub is for printing and title setup, not sales reports.

2

Export Monthly Sales By Title for the Month

The dashboard has instant reports for sales and inventory. Export the Monthly Sales By Title report for the month you're paying royalties on. Lakeside doesn't publish a guide to the dashboard's menus, and we haven't been able to confirm the exact menu path, so if you can't find it, ask your Lakeside client services contact for that report by name.

3

Choose the Matching Option in Familiar and Upload

Familiar has two upload options for this report, described below. Pick the one that matches how your contract with Lakeside works, then select the month the report covers. Familiar uses the month you choose, not the PERIOD line in the file.

Which Upload Option to Choose

“Lakeside”: CSV, amounts already net

Upload the report as a .csv file. Familiar records each row's AMOUNT as your net receipts and doesn't deduct anything further. Use this when AMOUNT is already what you're paid for each sale.

“Baker & Taylor (Lakeside)”: Excel, with distribution fee and print costs

Upload the report as an .xlsx file along with a second workbook, the Order Summary. Familiar treats AMOUNT as gross, subtracts your distribution fee to get net receipts, then subtracts the per-copy Unit Cost listed for each title in the Order Summary. That applies to every title listed there, whether it's print-on-demand or not. Use this when Lakeside takes a percentage fee from the AMOUNT and you pay authors on net after printing costs.

  • • Distribution fee: enter the percentage from your distribution agreement. It defaults to 25%, which may not be your rate.
  • • Order Summary: a title list with Product Id (the ISBN), Unit Cost, Bind Type and POD Status columns. Familiar uses it to look up each title's format and print cost. It can't be uploaded on its own. If you're not sure where to export it, ask your Lakeside contact.

The two options give different net figures for the same report, so pick one and stick with it from month to month. Mixing them makes month-over-month comparisons and author statements inconsistent.

What Familiar Imports

  • • ISBN and title for each sale
  • • Units sold, with returns kept as negative units so they reduce the month's totals
  • • The discount percentage for each sale, where the report shows one
  • • The amount for each sale, in US dollars
  • • With the Baker & Taylor (Lakeside) option: book format and print cost from the Order Summary

Troubleshooting

The upload button stays disabled: the Baker & Taylor (Lakeside) option needs the Order Summary attached before it can submit.

A file is rejected for its type: the Lakeside option takes .csv only; the Baker & Taylor (Lakeside) option takes .xlsx for both files.

Some titles show no royalties: with the Baker & Taylor (Lakeside) option, a title missing from the Order Summary has no print cost, so Familiar can't work out what's left after printing. Export a current Order Summary that includes every title and upload again.
