How to obtain your S&S / NBN expense detail reports
Simon & Schuster provides distribution services through National Book Network (NBN). Royalty statements are provided as multi-sheet Excel files that include print-on-demand sales data, production costs, and freight allocations.
Which Report to Upload
Upload the Expense Detail (.xlsx)
Request and upload the Expense Detail report, not the Royalty Detail. The Expense Detail contains the per-ISBN sales data, production costs, and freight allocations that Familiar needs to calculate accurate royalties and cost of goods sold.
How to Download Your Statement
Log In to the S&S Client Dashboard
Sign in to your Simon & Schuster publisher client dashboard.
Navigate to the Expense Detail Report
Go to Core Reports, then select Document Subtype: Expense Detail. Download the report for the month you want to import.
Upload to Familiar
Upload the Expense Detail .xlsx file and select the month that the report covers. Familiar will parse the sales data, allocate freight costs proportionally across ISBNs, and calculate cost of goods sold automatically.
What Familiar Extracts
From the POD Sheet:
- • ISBN and title for each book
- • Units sold
- • List price and discount
- • Extended sales price (gross revenue)
- • Production costs per ISBN
From the Freight Sheet:
- • Total freight and delivery costs
- • Allocated proportionally by units sold
- • Combined with production costs for COGS
